Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) are among the most promising innovations in healthcare. Producing these personalised medicines requires strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines, where every step of the process must be carefully documented and controlled. The labour market is in high demand for skilled profiles in this field. But GMP laboratories are highly regulated and rarely accessible to students.

Since 2022, at.las ATMP, with the support of a broad network of partners and sponsors, has organized the three-day ‘GMP for ATMP’ Summerschool for students in (bio)chemistry and laboratory techniques from AP Hogeschool, KdG University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and Thomas More University of Applied Sciences. This Summer School bridges this gap, giving participants first-hand experience of what it takes to work in a GMP environment.

Coordinated by the ATMP Logistics Excellence Centre, at.las ATMP, Air Cargo Belgium, Brussels Airport and Pharma.Aero joined forces to initiate the Precision Therapy Logistics Gateway (PTLG) project. This initiative assesses the reliability of current logistics models, particularly in the areas of temperature control, punctuality, traceability, and monitoring, and also introduces new, internationally recognized standards tailored to the specific requirements of precision therapies. By aligning expertise and best practices across partners, the project places Flanders firmly on the map as an international pharmaceutical and logistics innovator.

at.las ATMP is partner in the EU co-funded ATMP XB project, aiming to strengthen the Flemish-Dutch border region as a leading hub for ATMPs. Through collaboration between educational institutions, hospitals and companies, ATMP XB focuses on improving production, quality control, technology development and specialized training to help bring these innovative therapies to patients faster and more safely.

Consortium partners include Biovia, POM Antwerpen, at.las ATMP, anicells, IDEVAX, Karel de Grote-Hogeschool, Anabiotec, UZ Gent, Sure Laboratories, QbD Group, Smart BioMaterials Consortium (SBMC), and Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland.
