Enabling Technologies
The rapid progress in cell and gene therapy research is closely tied to advances in enabling technologies. Genome editing, sequencing, high-throughput screening, delivery systems, synthetic biology, computational modeling, stem cell platforms, and advanced analytics collectively form the technological foundation that drives discovery and innovation in this field. Antwerp has built a strong foundation in several of these enabling technologies, supported by a vibrant ecosystem of research institutions, clinical expertise, and biotechnology companies.

ATMP logistics
ATMPs require specialized, time-sensitive cold-chain logistics to preserve product integrity and chain of identity for fragile, often patient-specific therapies. Overcoming scale-up, global shipping, and cost challenges is essential to bring treatments from lab to patient.
The ATMP Logistics Excellence Centre, a collaboration between at.las ATMP and supply chain experts, ensures a resilient and reliable supply chain so these therapies reach patients on time, under optimal conditions, and at sustainable cost.

Patient Advisory Board for scientific research
Because ATMPs are often complex and highly personalized, patient experience data is vital to embed the ‘patient voice’ directly in scientific and technical development. Translating ‘lived experience’ into actionable insights supports treatment adoption and guides clinical and regulatory strategies.
The Patient Advisory Board members, being (former) patients, caregivers, and engaged volunteers, help Antwerp researchers make studies more accessible and relevant by reviewing key materials such as research proposals, study protocols, and patient information.
