The Medical Cell Biology course, part of the University of Antwerp’s master’s program for Biomedical Sciences students, provides foundational knowledge that is essential for careers in cell and gene therapy. The course equips students with a strong understanding of cellular mechanisms, molecular processes, and advanced therapeutic approaches that underpin modern biomedical innovations. Since 2022, at.las, with the support of POM Antwerpen, has organized the three-day ‘GMP for ATMP’ Summerschool for students in (bio)chemistry and laboratory techniques from AP Hogeschool, KdG University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and Thomas More University of Applied Sciences. By connecting students with industry experts and offering a unique hands-on learning experience, the Summer School helps build the skilled workforce urgently needed in the ATMP sector. It also strengthens the local life sciences ecosystem and highlights the collaborative spirit at the core of at.las ATMP.

Situated at the Science Park of the University of Antwerp, ViTalent is a specialized training center dedicated to and supported by the pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing sectors. It delivers targeted training programs tailored to the specific needs of ATMP manufacturers and the broader life sciences industry.

With a 1,500 m² facility that includes classrooms, laboratories, and practical training spaces with a fully equipped cleanroom environment, ViTalent was the first training center in Flanders to offer hands-on training for both current and future employees in the life sciences. By closely replicating real industry conditions, ViTalent plays a key role in preparing a highly skilled workforce for the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors.

In response to industry demand, specialized and ‘on-demand’ masterclasses, are organized and delivered by leading experts from the field. These focused training sessions address specific challenges and emerging topics within the cell and gene therapy and ATMP sectors. Designed with practical application in mind, the masterclasses equip professionals with up-to-date knowledge and hands-on insights, enabling them to immediately apply their skills and expertise in an industry setting.

The KdG Advanced Therapies Training Program is a postgraduate initiative that equips participants with cutting-edge expertise in the manufacturing of advanced therapies, addressing the growing need for highly specialized skills in the ATMP sector. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical insights into advanced manufacturing processes, the program prepares professionals to operate in complex, highly regulated environments. In doing so, it contributes to building a uniquely skilled workforce capable of supporting the development, production, and translation of next-generation therapies.

The Thomas More Pharma & Healthcare Logistics Postgraduate emphasizes the critical role of supply chain management in the success of pharmaceuticals, including advanced therapeutic products. The program provides in-depth insights into the complexities of sourcing, logistics, and distribution specific to cell and gene therapies. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical case studies, participants gain the skills necessary to ensure efficient, compliant, and reliable supply chains that support the safe and timely delivery of advanced therapies.
